About The LSAT: One Of The Most Important Tests You Will Take
The LSAT is one of those words that students who are thinking about studying law may hear but not really know much about. If you plan on studying law and getting into law school, it is imperative that you make yourself as knowledgeable about the LSAT as soon as you possibly can.
The LSAT is the Law School Admission Test. The LSAT takes a half a day to complete, and it is comprised of two parts. The first part of the LSAT is the multiple choice part, which is broken down into five sections of multiple choice questions, and four of the five sections actually count towards your final exam score. Of these five sections, one is reading comprehension (reading a selection and answering questions about it), one section measures your analytical reasoning skills, and two sections test your logical reasoning skills. The remaining section is a test section that tests future test questions and the like; this is the section that doesn't count towards your overall score, but you will never know which section this is. These are all skills that will be vital to you in your career as a legal professional and the LSAT measures your skill and your potential in one.
The second portion of the LSAT is a writing sample, designed to take the last 30 minutes of the exam. The sample must be written on a subject that is specified at the time the test is administered and it always changes so there is no way to study for this part. The only thing you can do to prepare for you writing sample portion of your LSAT exam is to know what the test proctors are looking for in your answer. Of course, people's written reactions are different from one another. But it is the way in which you arrange your response and how intelligent and clear thinking you portray yourself to be in your writing. The sample is not scored by your test proctor, but it is sent along with the results of the multiple choice portion of your exam to any and every law school you choose to apply to.
Similar to other college entrance exams, the LSAT is administered at hundreds of locations throughout the United States and the world. In order to be able to take the LSAT, you must first register online. It is recommended that you take the LSAT by December of the year before you plan on starting law school for your test results to be ready in time and sent to the appropriate schools. It plays heavily in your application for admission, along with your letters of reference, personal statement and Grade Point Average.
